Author Guidelines
The editorial board of the Journal of the College of Languages, published by the College of Languages / University of Baghdad, welcomes contributions from all fellow researchers from inside and outside Iraq in the fields of language, literature, and translation sciences. The Journal of the College of Languages is one of the refereed Iraqi scientific journals; research is published in it after being scientifically evaluated by accredited experts who enjoy scholarly and professional standing in their specific fields. Accordingly, the editorial board has set the following standards for publishing research, as follows:
The research should be characterized by originality and creativity, whether in the presentation of ideas and views, or in stating new facts that have not previously been published or known, and such research should contribute to solving a problem with a scientific, social, or intellectual benefit.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology should not be used in writing the research.
Title:
The research title is written in Times New Roman font, size (16).
The title should be concise and informative, avoiding abbreviations as much as possible, and written in the language of the research, as well as in both Arabic and English.
The full name of the researcher(s) is written in the language of the research and in both Arabic and English.
The researcher's (researchers') personal information must be stated, including: academic degree, specialization, academic title, institution and affiliation, the researcher's official email address, and the researcher's ORCID link.
Abstract: Abstracts are written in the language of the research and in both Arabic and English, and their content must be identical. The word count of each abstract must fall between (150–250) words. The linguistic formulation of the abstracts must also be correct and precise, with attention to proper punctuation within the paragraphs, since poor linguistic formulation of the abstracts affects the acceptance of the research for publication within its scheduled timeframe. The abstract must include the following elements:
Objectives: State the purpose of the research and clarify the reason for choosing the research topic or problem.
Methodology: Explain how the research was conducted, and describe the mechanism used to reach the research findings — for example, were interviews conducted? Was data collected using a questionnaire? What tools, methods, or datasets were used? And what samples was the data collected from?
Results: Summarize the most important key findings reached by the researcher in this work clearly and directly, without exaggeration in their explanation.
Keywords should be separated by commas, with a minimum of 5 words and a maximum of 7.
All parts of the research are written in Times New Roman font, with the body text and abstract in size (12), and margins of 2 inches on all sides of the page.
The research is written on one side of the page, with (1.15) cm line spacing.
The research must not be fewer than (5) pages nor exceed (22) pages of standard (B5) size, with a fee of five thousand dinars charged for each additional page.
Reference Documentation Procedures:
The research's primary sources and footnote sources are placed at the end of the research, following the unified referencing system adopted by the journal, which is the (APA6) system. Sources may not be numbered; they must instead be arranged alphabetically.
Charts, tables, or illustrative figures are inserted within the text and numbered sequentially, with their captions and explanatory notes written below them.
Researchers must prepare their source and reference lists so that each list includes:
A list of foreign sources and references (in the language of the research), arranged alphabetically.
A list of foreign sources and references (language of the research) translated into English and arranged alphabetically.
Research appendices (if any) are placed at the end of the research, after the sources.
The journal offers a service for formatting and documenting research according to the APA 6 system adopted by the journal, for researchers who are unable to carry out this step themselves. This is done at the researcher's request, for a fee of (15,000) fifteen thousand Iraqi dinars.
If the Al-Madina Mushaf program is used for Qur'anic verses, the researcher bears responsibility for ensuring these verses appear in the correct form; it is therefore preferable to copy them from the electronic Mushaf available online.
The researcher is informed of the decision regarding the suitability of publication, or otherwise, within a period not exceeding two months from the date the research was submitted to the editorial board.
The journal is not obligated to publish research that violates any of the conditions stated above, including matters of intellectual integrity.
The researcher receives two offprints of their research, and should they wish to purchase a copy of the journal, the price of a single copy is (20,000) twenty thousand Iraqi dinars, or its equivalent in US dollars.
Researcher's Obligations:
The researcher is obligated to carry out the referees' requested revisions to their research according to the reports sent to them, and to provide the journal with a revised electronic copy within a period not exceeding (15) fifteen days; otherwise, their research will be deferred to the next issue.
The journal refuses to publish research that lacks a scientific research methodology, and also requires the researcher to take into account the comments made about their research by the peer-review experts.
Submitting research to the journal obligates the researcher not to submit it to any other party.
Researchers from within our college are required to pay publication fees amounting to (100,000) one hundred thousand dinars, while researchers from outside the College of Languages pay (150,000) one hundred fifty thousand dinars, in addition to a plagiarism-check fee of (15,000) fifteen thousand Iraqi dinars. Researchers from outside Iraq are exempted from paying publication fees, particularly those who cooperate with the journal on a scholarly basis.
In addition to the previous conditions, graduate students are required to submit proof of the supervising professor's approval of the research, according to the form prepared for this purpose (download here).
The researcher is required to submit an undertaking (pledge) according to the form prepared for this purpose (download here).
The researcher is required to submit a publication request according to the amended form: for a single-author research request (download here), and for a co-authored research request (download here).
The researcher must write the research according to the journal's template (download here).
The editorial board of the Journal of the College of Languages welcomes citation of research published in our journal, even if the citation is from one of your own previously published works, provided that the DOI of the cited research is mentioned when referring to it in the list of sources.
A brief author biography of no more than (50) words is written under the title "about the author", placed after the research's sources at the end of the paper, in the language of the research, along with a WhatsApp mobile number.
Evaluation Mechanism:
The research undergoes confidential evaluation by two referees in the relevant field of specialization, and may be referred to a third referee to reach a final decision in case of divergent opinions regarding its suitability.
All submission requests must satisfy the following requirements:
References are documented according to the (APA6) system and listed at the end of the research in Times New Roman, size 12.
